Lisboa - Lissabon - Lisbon

Eu gosto de Lisboa...e o que melhor sei fazer e "vender" férias a pessoas interessadas em lá ir. Desde apresentações nas minhas aulas de alemão a exaustivos diálogos com colegas de trabalho. Quando não conheço as pessoas e quero ter assunto, geralmente a linha de abertura é: Have you been to Lisbon?

To Sleep
- Hotel Lisboa - (price is +/- 80eur for a double room w/ b/fast included)
It is centrally located walking distance from the center and to the main arteries of town. Also 3min walk to tube station - Avenida da Liberdade, or 5min to the other - Marques de Pombal. If you plan to rent a car this is not and optimal option because the hotel has no free parking around. And parking in Lisbon can sometimes be a nightmare.
Hotel Lisboa
Rua Barata Salgueiro, 5

To Visit
- Castelo de S. Jorge and the Old Town
- Bairro Alto - very nice for a drink in the evening, with a mix of people and sometimes weird - but not dangerous youth :-))
- Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, Mosteiro dos Descobrimentos & Palacio de Belem (these 3 are all close by one another and facing the Tagus River). If the weather is, as usual nice and sunny, you can walk from Jeronimos to Belem. Here, you have to eat Pasteis de Belem in Belem (=cream pies!!!! will get back to this topic next!)
- Expo - close to the river...kms of walkable pathway. You can enjoy the sun or go on a Gondola/cable-car ride and see the river from up...(It is a nice and pleasant area!) If you go there and see these huge buildings - 2 twin towers - think of me...it is my favorite spot in Lisbon and when I become a milionaire, this is where I will have my flat :-))))
To Eat
- You have to go to a Casa de Fados, have dinner and see the show. Fado is the typical folclore music from Portugal. Very melodic. Best would be FRI or SAT evening. Sundays are very quiet.
For Fado show and Dinner one of the best spots in Town is the "Adega Machado" (Rua do Norte, 51 - T: +351 213 224 640)
- Pasteis de Belem you can eat throughout the city but in Belem you can eat the real and original ones - from "Fabrica dos Pasteis de Belem" (Rua de Belem, 84-92 Lisbon - T: +351 21363 74 23) ...freshly backed and delicious (just thinking makes my mouth watery)
- Close to Hotel Lisboa you have a very nice restaurant - RIBADOURO (Avenida da Liberdade, 155, Lisboa. T: +351 213149411) - we call these restaurants Cervejaria, which directly translated means Beerplace - here you have fresh sea food and fish and also fabulous steaks. If you are "meat people" please do not miss their Bife na Frigideira - with pommes frites and egg! uhmmmmmm
- Docas - is a strip of land in the Lisbon Marina (not a glamourous Marina, but a place with a few small boats) filled with Restaurants, Bars and Discos. It is situated more or less underneath the Ponte 25 de Abril (very nice monument, also a work from Gustave Eifell but not as famous as the Eiffel Tower)
For Fun
- If you want hard party and real disco style, you have to go to Avenida 24 de Julho. Every other door is a disco!!!! (From the rougher to the more stylish ones) Night life in Portugal starts really late, not before 2AM!
For Shopping - You can shop almost everywhere in Lisbon!!!!!
- Centro Comercial Colombo (direct metro line)
- Centro Comercial Vasco da Gama (direct metro line)
I hope this is a good start!
I would say that 2 days in Lisbon are "fast nichts", but I am so happy you are going.
While writing this email so many other options and suggestions came to my mind....
